Aarting Proudly Presents:

The Next Great Designer Toy Challenge!

You asked for it on the forum, so here it is – Now YOU can design your own custom platform toy!

This is your chance to design the toy’s actual shape. That’s right, designers from all over the world will be able to customize something that you designed! This means that you’re now free to come up with any original shape you want, in any style (as long as it’s not overly violent/graphic/pornographic, that is!).

What else?
Sculpted in beautiful pure white plastic, these Do-It-Yourself pieces will be ready for you to color/paint/design at home. Submissions should have NO COLOR!

What’s so special about these?
These toys are not the typical objects you find in stores and are not mass-produced, “made-in-China” toys.

In fact, they’re not “toys” at all. These are extremely limited edition, highly collectible sculptures. These designer multiples will be a limited production and will be distributed exclusively through Aarting.

As usual, the community will vote and choose their favorite design.

Remember, designers from around the world will be customizing your winning design so show up with your best ideas!

How To Enter:

1. Create your design idea!

Designing your submission:
Take some time to design the best original idea you can think of. Use whatever you have to design – pencil, paper, computer, clay, crayons, etc. - it’s up to you. If you are designing in a design program (like Adobe Illustrator®, Adobe Flash® or in a raster program like Adobe Photoshop®), make sure you keep the original at 100% actual size and at 300 dpi.

Remember: We’re looking for you to design the shape of the toy only! What you design is what will be sculpted.

To enter the challenge, you’ll need to submit a “turn around” model sheet of your design to show us what it looks like from all sides. These include:

1.    Front
2.    Left Side
3.    Back
4.    Right Side

You may include top and bottom angles if you’ve done something special with those sides.

Guidelines:
•    All submissions must be submitted on the new Aarting design template. You can download it below:

•    Size:
Maximum toy size is 4.5 in. height x 3.5 in. width x 3.0 in. depth
(or H=11.4 cm x W=8.9 cm x D=7.6 cm)

The provided Aarting design template provides accurate dimensions.

•    The toy can be oriented in any way – horizontal or vertical.

•    NO COLOR!  The toys will be sculpted in beautiful pure white plastic.

•    Accessories can be included but will still need to fit within the maximum toy size dimensions and must also be able to be sculpted in white plastic (i.e.- no cloth, etc.)

•    Limited, simple movement in head or shoulders is okay (if the toy has a head or shoulders), but no complex opposable joints/limbs.

2) Enter!

Each designer MUST submit:

a. A thumbnail version of your design.
This is usually a picture of the “front” of your design, and is the first thing people will see on the scoring page. We’ve included this template in the submission kit for you to use. This file MUST be saved as a 72 dpi, RGB color .jpg under 250kb. The design must completely fit within the provided guidelines, head touching the top and feet touching the bottom.

b. A 72 dpi version of your full design.
This is a low res copy of your full production template design that you will post in the “entries” forum. This will allow the community to view, score and comment on your full design. This file MUST be a 72 dpi, RGB color .jpg under 250kb.

c. (optional) Get your work critiqued by the community!

After coming up with the best design you can, we encourage you to post a 72 dpi .jpg of the “front” image in the “Critique” folder on the forum.

The "Critique" folder on the Aarting forum allows you to post your design and ask for a community critique before it's submitted for judging. By using the "Critique" option before submitting, you can use the community to help get the submission up to par. This can greatly improve your chances of winning!

Check out the Critique forum here.

d. Submit your design to Aarting!

Enter as many designs as you like! When your files are ready, upload the thumbnail image and the full production template to the “entries” forum. This will allow the community to view, score and comment on your full design.

Posting on the forum:
Create a new thread for each design you submit. Make sure you upload it as a 72 dpi, RGB .jpg under 250kb This will insure that everyone’s design is the same size, and can be viewed the same way.

3) THE PRIZE!!!

The winner will receive three (3) of the toy sculptures in its original size (approx. 4.5 inches tall) as well as a super sized 8 inch Limited Edition version.

We’ll also feature your work with an exclusive interview on the Aarting website, and possibly other goodies as well.

Deadline:

Entries must be posted by 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2009.

Community voting will begin shortly after.

Things to Remember:
•    We’ll make the winner’s design production ready. So go crazy and be inventive!
•    The winner’s designer toy will be sold on the website and can be colored at home.
•    To produce the toy, Aarting will need to retain ownership of the winning design. Check out our Legal Terms and Conditions for more info.
    •    Questions?  Post them to the “Ask Aarting” thread on the forum.
